The Museu Nacional dos Coches brings together a unique collection of state and leisure carriages from the 16th to the 19th century, mostly from the Portuguese Royal Household, complemented by vehicles from Church estates and private collections. It offers an outstanding insight into the technical and artistic evolution of horse-drawn transport used by European courts until the advent of the automobile.
