🎭
The tours
What is a theatrical tour?

It’s a guided tour in which the monument’s history is told in the first person. Professional actors bring to life characters who lived or worked there — kings, queens, coachmen, sailors — and lead the group through the spaces with historical accuracy, humour and plenty of interaction. The scripts are written by the founder of COOLture Tours and historian Felisa Pérez.

What does the tour include?

Every tour includes professional actors as your guides, the historical script of the tour and the entry ticket to the monument, where applicable. At the end there’s a quiz on the topics covered.

How long does a tour last?
About 1h30. The exact duration of each tour is shown on its page.
Is there a minimum age?

The recommended minimum age is shown on each tour’s page. Our tours are not suitable for children under 3. There’s no upper age limit — adults and children are equally captivated by the experience.

Are the tours available in other languages?
Yes. All tours can be held in Portuguese, English or Spanish, by prior booking as a private group. Tours open to the public are held in Portuguese, unless stated otherwise on the tour’s page.
Will the tour be just for my group, or will there be other people?

Tours open to the public run on fixed dates and may bring together different visitors. If you’d prefer an exclusive tour for your group — whatever its size — we can schedule a private session, provided the tour’s minimum fee is met. Contact us for a proposal.

Are the monuments closed on any day of the week?
Yes. Tours follow each monument’s opening hours, and each one closes on a different day of the week. Please check the closing day shown on each tour’s page before booking.
Are the tours accessible for people with reduced mobility?

It depends on the monument — some historic buildings have stairs or limited access. Let us know when booking if any participant has reduced mobility, so we can plan the route and use alternative access wherever the monument allows.

📅
Bookings and cancellations
How do I book a tour?

It depends on the tour:

  • Tours open to the public — click Book on the tour’s page and you’ll be taken to the online ticket office, where you choose the date and buy your ticket.
  • Tours at Parques de Sintra — bookings are made directly on the Parques de Sintra website, which you’ll be redirected to from the tour’s page.
  • Schools, groups, companies and agencies — contact us for a proposal and to confirm availability.
Can I cancel or change the date of my tour?
For tours open to the public, there are no refunds once the booking is confirmed. However, if you email us at least 7 days before the tour date, we’ll move your booking to another date of the same tour or to a tour of equivalent value. Conditions for schools and groups are described in their own sections.
What if I don't enjoy the tour?

That’s the only case in which we refund the amount paid. If you’re not satisfied with a tour open to the public, write to us at info@coolturetours.com and we’ll refund the full ticket price.

What happens if the tour is cancelled due to bad weather?
For outdoor tours, if weather conditions force a cancellation, participants are informed in advance and the ticket price is refunded in full.
🏫
Schools
How do I book a school visit?

Contact us with the tour you’d like, the number of students and teachers, their school year and your preferred date. We’ll send you a proposal and confirm availability. We recommend booking at least 10 working days in advance.

How many students can each group have?
Each group can have a maximum of 25 students, so that everyone can follow and take part in the tour.
What if the class has more than 25 students?
The class is split into several groups of up to 25 students, each with its own team of actors. Each following tour starts 15 minutes after the previous one.
How many teachers can accompany the tour?
Each group can be accompanied by 2 teachers, courtesy of COOLture Tours.
What about students with special educational needs?
Students with special educational needs (SEN) are not charged, nor is the adult accompanying each of them. Let us know how many SEN students will take part and whether any have reduced mobility, so we can adapt the route.
How does payment work?

Full payment is due up to 7 working days before the tour, by bank transfer or MB WAY. It is non-refundable in the event of cancellation or no-show by the group or by any student.

What if a student misses the tour due to illness?
Send us the medical certificate and we’ll issue a voucher valid for 6 months, so the student can do the tour on another date. The amount paid is not refunded.
👥

Groups, companies and agencies
How do tours for private groups work?
We plan each tour around your group — purpose, date, language, number of participants and any extras. After your first contact we send a proposal and quote. Large groups are split into groups of up to 20 people, with each following tour starting 15 minutes after the previous one.
How does payment work for groups and companies?

50% upon confirmation and the balance up to 7 working days before the tour. In the event of cancellation, the amount paid is not refunded.

What if the group arrives late or needs to change the date?
The maximum tolerance for late arrival is 15 minutes. After that, the tour is charged as a new service; if the actors are no longer available that day, the amount paid is not refunded. Changes to the date or time after confirmation are subject to a change fee and can be made up to 15 working days before the tour. These conditions also apply to schools.
Do you work with travel agencies and tour operators?

Yes. We have a dedicated price list for agencies and tour operators, with tours in Portuguese and English. Ask us for our agency kit.

Do you organise corporate events and team building?
Yes. We organise exclusive tours for companies, associations and groups of friends, as well as team building events with tailored activities and partners.
