A theatrical walking tour of the Botanical Garden of Ajuda accompanied by Queen D. Maria Pia of Savoy.
In the second half of the 19th century, the Botanical Garden of Ajuda — founded in the 18th century at the initiative of King D. José I, when the Court moved to Ajuda after the 1755 Earthquake — was given a new lease of life. Inspired by the Victorian spirit of the age and a love of nature, the royal family who moved into the Palace of Ajuda in 1862 turned the garden into their daily retreat — a place for leisure, nature, and quiet encounters.
This walking tour aims to bring families closer to one of the most beautiful historic gardens in Portugal, nurturing a love of nature and respect for heritage and sustainability.
NOTE: comfortable shoes, water bottle, small notebook, pencil and camera recommended.
